Our Story: First Date

This post is the second edition of the Brock and SarahLynn Courtship Story. If you missed the first installment you can read it here. I am posting this part of the story five years to the day of our first date.

After my bishop told me not to give up on all guys, I made up my mind I wasn't going to wait for another weirdo to ask me out I was going to ask Brock on a date. I knew that he wasn't too strange because I had observed him from a distance one semester and talked to him several times. But just in case things turned weird I made sure that we were doubling with my really good friend and old roommate Nicole and her boyfriend Andrew.

I was nervous to ask Brock and did it with the support of my Family Home Evening brothers. Even though I was so scared it went really well and much to my delight he said, "Yes." Beyond that he asked me to come in and we talked for a little while. I was so excited and nervous for this date. (Let it be known at this same time Brock was thinking about asking me out he was just waiting to get up the strength to do it)
Preparing for the pumpkin guts. (I have a weird allergy to pumpkin guts where my hands break out in hives if I don't wear gloves).
I wore my favorite shirt and shoes and made sure every strain of my hair was perfectly curled. We did a date night in. We had cream of potato soup (from the can, I didn't have enough time to cook because I had to make sure I looked perfect) with pumpkin soup bowls, we carved pumpkins as a couple and the four of us made pumpkin pie (which I found out later Brock doesn't like but he ate it because he didn't want me to feel bad).
Cutting the top while talking a long.
It was the most perfect 1st date I ever had been on. There were no awkward silences or when we seemed to be stammering for something to say. Brock had many similar interests to me and we talked about how we would need to go play basketball soon.
I love this picture because when I look at it I remember how excited I was that Brock was having a good time. By the way Andrew and Nicole were the perfect double date.
Since I was the one that had asked him out and the date was at my apartment I decided I would walk him home for the night. This was the only part of the date that was a little strange. Since I was not used to being the one to drop my date off I didn't know what to do. I can't remember if I gave him a High Five, or shook his hand, or maybe it was a side hug with a pat. All I remember is it was really awkward, so awkward that it caused me to run all the way back to my apartment because my face was bright red. (Brock told his family the part about me running off).
